RISQS CERTIFICATION SUPPORT

Unlock Your Place in the UK Rail Industry

Working within the Great British rail network demands more than expertise — it requires formal recognition. RISQS certification is the gateway to working with Network Rail, Transport for London (TfL), and the wider rail supply chain, and without it, the door to this sector simply is not open.

At BOP Safety Associates, we have spent over three decades operating at the heart of rail health, safety, and environmental compliance. We do not just understand RISQS — our team have worked as official auditors within the scheme. That inside knowledge means we guide you through certification with precision, confidence, and a clear route to success.

Depend on our distinguished track record to pave the way to the broader railway sector, positioning you directly on the route to success.

What is RISQS?

The Rail Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme (RISQS) is the recognised qualification body for organisations operating as buyers or suppliers within the UK rail sector. Whether you are delivering trackside services, supplying materials, or supporting infrastructure projects, RISQS certification demonstrates that your business meets the standards required to work safely and compliantly in the industry.

The scheme is industry-owned and industry-led, overseen by a committee drawn from across the rail sector and operating under the governance of the RSSB Board. RSSB provides the operational backbone of RISQS, including the development and maintenance of the rail standards that every participating company must meet.

RISQS plays a vital role in helping Network Rail and Transport for London manage supply chain risk — ensuring that every business in the chain is qualified, accountable, and safe.

The Three Stages of RISQS Certification

BOP guides you through every step of the process, from initial registration to passing your audit.

STEP ONE – APPLICATION SUBMISSION

The journey begins on the RISQS Portal. You will need to complete and submit the application questionnaire, selecting the correct RICCL and product codes that accurately reflect the scope of your business. Getting this right from the outset is critical — errors here can delay the entire process.

How BOP helps at this stage:

  • Registering your organisation with RISQS

  • Completing and submitting the questionnaire on your behalf

  • Ensuring the correct RICCL/Product codes are applied to your submission

  • Positioning your application for maximum impact from day one

STEP TWO – PRE-AUDIT PREPARATION

Once your application is submitted, the real preparation begins. You will need a suite of policies, procedures, and documentation that demonstrate a fully functioning, rail-compliant management system. This is where many businesses struggle — and where BOP adds the most value.

How BOP helps at this stage:

  • Developing all required policies, procedures, and supporting documentation

  • Building a bespoke, rail-compliant management system compatible with ISO standards

  • Identifying and closing any gaps in your existing health, safety, and environmental documentation

  • Providing quarterly updates on rail industry standards so you are never caught off guard

  • Giving you access to specialists in rail health, safety, and environmental matters

STEP THREE – THE AUDIT

The RISQS audit assesses your organisation’s compliance with RISQS protocols and rail industry standards. It is the moment everything comes together — and BOP will be right alongside you to make sure it does.

How BOP supports you on audit day:

  • On-site support, remote assistance via video call, or telephone guidance — whichever suits your situation

  • Real-time responses to auditor questions, drawing on our experience as former RISQS auditors

  • A tailored approach based on your specific operational scope and certification requirements

Our goal is straightforward: to help you achieve certification the first time.

ONGOING COMPLIANCE & CONTINUED SUPPORT

Achieving your RISQS certification is a milestone — but maintaining it requires consistent effort. Standards evolve, regulations are updated, and your business does not stand still. BOP offers a structured ongoing support programme to keep your compliance in great shape all year round.

Continued support services include:

  • Compliance assistance and documentation management

  • Sentinel management and card administration

  • Updates on Network Rail Rule Books

  • Internal audits and management system reviews

  • Worksite inspections

  • Senior management review meetings
